Pets entering Montserrat
Montserrat is a pet friendly island and part of the British Pet Passport Scheme. Presently you are free to bring your domestic pet (cat or dog) into Montserrat from the United States, Great Britain, Canada or European Union (EU) countries provided you obtain a Certificate of Health from a licensed veterinarian where you and your pet reside. In general, the certificate will state the pet has been vaccinated against rabies, and felinine / leukemia / rhinotracheitis / calici / panleukopenia (FVRCP / LVK). The certificate must be signed by the veterinarian, countersigned by a governmental veterinary officer in your country and dated no more than seven days from date of travel.
You need three originals of the Certificate of Health: one for entry into Montserrat, one for presentation to the veterinary officer at the Antigua airport (see below) and one for re-entry to your home country.
To ensure you have the proper form of certificate of health, and to advise of date of arrival in Montserrat it is recommended to contact Montserrat’s Veterinary Department at (664) 491 2075 or via email at leer@gov.ms
Travelling through Antigua
There are presently no direct flights to Montserrat. You
will travel through the island of Antigua and then take a short flight to
Montserrat. Prior to travel, arrangements must be made with the Government of
Antigua for your pet entering the Antigua airport and re-entering on your return
travel. This is not a difficult process.
Your pet will be inspected within the Antigua airport by an Antiguan
Veterinarian. Please note that a nominal fee (currently $50 US) is charged by
the Veterinarian for attending at the airport for the inspection, and that you
will be required to provide an original of the Certificate of Health (see
above).
Please contact the Government of Antigua (Veterinary and Livestock Division) at
(268) 460 1759, or via email at
antiguavet@hotmail.com.
