Constitution and Rules

Montserrat Animal Protection Society is a Society registered under The Friendly Societies Act of the Laws of Montserrat.  A complete and definitive version of the 'Rules of the Montserrat Animal Protection Society' is available here for reference.  As set out in these Rules, MAPS was set up to:

(a) encourage and foster the proper humane and ethical treatment of animals in Montserrat though educational activities, providing information to and for the benefit of the general public and children in particular.

(b) promote responsible pet and domestic animal ownership and in particular to encourage the neutering of dogs and cats as a means of reducing stray, abandoned, feral and unwanted animals;

(c) forge links with other related organisations (e.g., the RSPCA) and government bodies for the promotion and promulgation of animal welfare issues in Montserrat

(d) collect money to fund the Society’s educational activities and public services and to be able to offer financial assistance to other charitable organisations in the animal welfare field as may be determined by the Society.

(e) set up and run an animal shelter and to be able to offer financial and/or other assistance to any existing animal shelters or animal rescue operations or organisations in Montserrat and to provide a direct service to the public by assisting in the re-housing of stray, abandoned or unwanted animals
