About us |
The Montserrat Animal
Protection Society (MAPS) is a registered animal Charity under The Friendly
Societies Act.
It was formed towards the end of
2001 to look after lost, abandoned and mistreated animals. Membership is made up
of Montserratians, expatriates, working people, retirees and young people. MAPS
does not receive any formal funding from the government, it survives on
donations and money raised at fund raising events.
MAPS
main objectives are:
- to encourage and foster the proper
humane and ethical treatment of animals in Montserrat through educational
activities, providing information to and for the benefit of the general public
and children in particular;
- to promote responsible pet and
domestic animal ownership and in particular to encourage the neutering of dogs
and cats as a means of reducing strays and unwanted animals;
- to forge links with other related
organisations (e.g., WSPA) and government bodies for the promotion of animal
welfare issues in Montserrat;
- to set up and run an animal shelter
and to provide a direct service to the public by assisting in the re-housing
of stray, abandoned or unwanted animals.
